While we were preparing to leave Nebraska, I was worried about finding my next new favorite place to shop in our new area. I asked on A Primitive Place if anybody knew of a place in AZ that wood be what a girl like me was looking for. Well- one person answered with an awesome suggestion. It is called The Apple Tree. Girls, when I finally made the trip to this store and walked inside the door, it was instant love. I was like a little kid at a toy store. I wanted 1 of everything. It was so much fun to just walk around. In the back of the shop is a section of stuff that must be there on consignment. I found a platter that matched the dishes that I started collecting over the summer. This platter and a copy of A Primitive Place magazine are the only 2 things I walked out of there with. I was trying to be good, but I had my husband with me, too. For Christmas my dear, sweet husband came back to this shop, all my himself, to buy me a gift certificate. He also walked around the nearby antique stores and found more of my dishes(i'll post more on this later). So here is what my gift certificate went to...

A cute little gameboard. I'll have a gameroom in the new house where this will look perfect.

A small crock of fake pomegranents. Too bad only 1 pommigranant shows.

The rest... a washboard, wooden bucket, basket, 2 candle holders w/ battery candles, and another crock.

So right now I'm just stocking up on things for the new house. We aren't puting anything on the walls in this house since we know we don't have a lot of time here. I can't wait to be in the new house so I can get everything out to look at until my heart's content.

Also, I'm looking to change the name of my blog. I just don't like the current name at all. I would love some help with this if anybody has any suggestions. Maybe something like My primitive desert home??? I don't know.

Wowsers! It's been a long time.

I don't think anybody noticed I haven't written in a very long time. I'd post pictures to kind of show what's been going on, but they're on the other computer.
The major event that changed everything was my husband retiring from the Navy. He served his 20 years proundly and it was time to move on.
We FINALLY finished the basement. Again, I wish I could show pictures. We had to hire somebody to come in and finish it. We were just in way over our heads. It turned out great. It was barely finished in time to put the house on the market. What a scary thing to do in this econemy. My husband accepted a job in another state so it was time to move, again. We've been in our current location, the South West desert, for about 7 months now, with 5 more to go. We're going to move 1 more time, then stay put for a while. It's really hard, I'm not going to lie. We had to be here for husband's training before we can move on to our final destination.
My husband and I are in the process of buying a new house in the new city. It will be finished, hopefully, as we get ready to leave here. I am super excited about it. We are going to have a lot of room to spread out. When you have 3 boys, you need that.
I've been kicking abround blog world a bit lately. I've found some new blogs that are super fun to look at. A lot of decorating blogs. Not just prim decor, either. I'm going to try and come up with a way to maybe mix prim and maybe farm decor. I found one blog that was what I might be looking for. It's called Down to Earth Style She has a lot of the rustic style that I like, yet ideas to make it all work in a brand new home.

Snow Drifts

I'm on a roll.. LOL I'm not even sure if anybody reads this little blog of mine. If you do, please give me a holler and let me know you came by.

Today is round 2, day 2 for snow days. We've gotten about 6" of snow since Monday night. Monday morning we woke up to ice everywhere. The roads were so bad. I was so nervous driving to work. There were accidents everywhere. People not being able to just "go" after they had stopped at a sign or light. Buses were late picking up, late dropping off at school. It was just plain awful. So yesterday was declared a snow day, as is today. It is soooo cold outside (-15 windchill). Hubby started out to work about 6AM and got stuck right outside our neighborhood. Most of the outlets were blocked, so he found a way he thought he could maneuver. No such luck. He was stuck. He had his shovel with him and tried to shovel himself out. That didn't work. So he walked home to grab the snow blower to move the snow that was blocking his way, after he was able to get the truck to move. Well, finally, Mr. Snow Plow Man came by and moved the snow out of his way so he could come back home. Poor guy. All this on top of a migraine he's battling this morning. Hope you have a better day honey.

Tote Giveaway and My Family Binder

Today, Toni over at A Bowl Full of Lemons is offering a giveaway for a free tote from Thirty-One. If you've never visited Thirty-One than you should. This company sells all kinds of different bags, totes, purses, and organizers in a variety of different patterns.
I have a couple of bags that I organize with. I have a pool bag that keeps the pool pass, pool toys, sunscreen, and towels.
I also have a backpack that I use during football season, or whenever, that keeps magazines, a book, paper, pen, and snacks.

Yesterday was a snow day so I was able to get quite a bit accomplished. I've been working on puting shelving paper down in the kitchen. I put some down in the cup cabinet and the plate cabinet. Looks so much better. I also was able to finish my family binder. . I posted about this a couple of days ago. A Bowl Full of Lemons is hosting a weekly organizing challenge and this week's challenge is to make a family binder. I had one about 12 years ago, but haven't used one since.

Yep, just a plain ol' paper folder with 2 little pockets. Here's what it looked like when I opened it...

Sad, isn't it? So I went to Target, one of my happiest places on earth, and bought a new binder, some sheet protecters, stickers, and dividers..plus new ink for the printer. I went through the old folder, threw out old papers, and 3 hole punched the keepers.

I wanted to decorate the front somewhat so I had some colored paper to lable the front with stickers and a Bible verse card that I had lying around. Here's what I came up with...

When I open my binder here is what I see. The pocket holds the kids school handbook. I have an empty pencil pouch. I'll fill it up soon.

Then I have some poems and prayers I put in sheet protecters.

This picture kind of shoes the different tabs I'm using...

School/Activities: holds the school menu, the schools newsletter, yearbook form, wrestling info sheet and schedule, mbr. ship forms for Roller Hockey, instrument agreement from the music store, the band's weekly schedule, letter from a teacher w/ her email on it and my sunday school class list.

Medical: this section currently holds my shot records, eye prescriptions, and a brochure from the dog's vet. I need to find his shot record. Hmm... I might add a new vet section if I buy more tabs.

Menu: I have a brochure from a Co-OP I want to look into, an old order form from Angel Food Ministries, and then I'll add some menus as I make them up.

Cleaning: I'm going to make up my cleaning schedule.

Crafts/Decorating: I see all kinds of crafts and decorating ideas out there in Blog land so this will be where I will add all the great ideas I see.

So as you can see it's still a work in progress, but at least it's started and I can continue with getting it filled and relying on my new "My Family Binder."

Home Management Binder

A few weeks ago I found this cool little blog called A Bowl Full of Lemons. This blog is all about cleaning and organizing. She just finished up with some daily challenges, only to begin with some weekly challenges. This week's challenge is to build a Home Management Binder. This binder should hold cleaning lists, phone lists, menus, and just about anything else that will help you stay organized and help you run your home smoothly. Now, I've had one before... It was okay...I just didn't use it a whole lot. Right now I have a cheapy folder with menus, phone lists, and so on. This week I'll go shopping for a cutsie binder, ink for my printer, and some dividers so I can make a really cute binder. Hopefully one I'll use.

Obviously I've been away for a long time

Happy New Year everybody!
What have I been up to you might ask? Well, let me tell just tell you. I got real busy with everybody going back to school and the boys playing football, last fall.
When football starts, it's a fulltime job for me. Practice is 3 days per week, with a 4th day filled with games.
Once football was over, I had one kid playing basketball and 2 kids playing roller hockey. This took up 4 days per week, with the others left to do everything else that need done.
Next was Christmas. We drove over 1500 miles to have Christmas with our family for the fist time in like 11 years. What a blast that was. It was wonderful to see the fam, while celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus. My mother in law really made our visit extra special.
Now we have 1 kid wrestling, 1 kid playing hockey, and 1 taking a break.
While all of this was going on, we worked very hard on our son's room that we're building downstairs in the basement. It didn't help that we are so out of our comfort zone when doing anything down there. We had help with getting the dry wall up and most of it mud and taped. When we felt like we couldn't do anymore, hubby started puting out feelers and found a guy to finish the mud and texture the ceiling. It turned out so good. When we came home from vacation we painted, put down some temporary carpet, and moved the kid in. What a difference it has made having him down there and all the kids having their own rooms. There's less fighting and arguing and less clutter.
So there you go...my life summed up in a nut shell. This next year holds some significant changes mine and my family's lives. I hope you can check back ever so often to say HI!

Pioneer Woman and 16 minute Beef and Bean Burritos

Wow, I haven't been on here in like FoReVeR! Just in case anybody does read what I have to say, I'll try and catch up on what has been happening around here for the last couple of months. Not now, but soon.

Right now I want to pass along a recipe and link to something we had for dinner recently. It was so good and a big hit for everybody. They're Beef and Been Burritos. I got the recipe from Pioneer Woman. If you don't follow her blog, you're missing out. She posts THE BEST recipes everyday, practically.

Click on the burrito above for the recipe. I tried to copy and paste but it won't let me. The first time I made it was on a whim. I saw the recipe and immediately my mouth started watering. I had most of the ingredients on hand, except for the special sauce. I make my own enchilada sauce anyway, so I just used that. Last week I had the special sauce on hand and my husband loved it. He requested that I keep a couple of cans in the pantry on a regular basis. LOL

Pioneer Woman has published her own cookbook. It's a beautiful book with bright pages and some of her best recipes.

Ree's blog isn't just about cooking, though. She posts about the ranch she lives on, the animals on the ranch, photography, and MUCH more. Ree also has frequent giveaways. Check out Pioneer Woman's blog and I promise you won't be sorry!

My son Jordan is taking a language class in 7th grade. Right now he's studying German. If he cooks some recipes related to the language he's studying, then he gets extra points. So today we are making Schnitzel and Apple Studel (Apfelstudel). I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've did a lot of blog hopping last weekend and found some stitching patterns that were very cute for Valentine's. I actually bought 2 patterns from Olde-time-stitchin...a first for me. I found this cute little heart(see below)

I'll show you the other pattern when I start working on it.

I also found these little salt bowl ornies in my travels. I've never worked with salt dough before, so you'll notice lots of mistakes. I guess since I made them for my house and not to giveaway, I can live with it. I want to give my little guys some rosy cheeks but not sure how to do it or what to use, but here they are so far (below)

That's about all that's going on. I'm going to try and come up with a better schedule to post more than once per week. Last week was the first week we were at school for a full 5 days since the week of November 3. I was floored when I heard this. Anyway, I had a hard time getting on here to make a post.

One Simple Country Girl Giveaway

Other than that, there's not much going on. Everybody, for the most part, is happy to be back to school. My job is going well(i work at a school), Aaron's report card that he was suppose to receive last week, but received yesterday instead was decent. Jordan was finally able to start wrestling yesterday. This is something new for him as he's never wrestled before. He loves it so far, but boy was he tired when he got home. Then there's Noah. Poor, poor Noah hasn't had a good week so far. Yesterday he and his friend had a little misunderstanding, and today he wasn't paying attention and had to move is star to blue. He's come home yesterday and today and just has had a total meltdown. Hopefully it gets better for him.

Sunday I downloaded some patterns for stitching. They're both valentine patterns and very cute. I'll take a picture of the one I started for tomorrow.

I have to run and get Aaron from school.

Today is Kitchen Recipe Swap over at http://andbabymakesfive-colleen.blogspot.com/2010/01/colleens-kitchen-recipe-swap.html (I need to learn to link w/ the just a name and not use the whole address) . Everybody loves to try out new recipes so this should be fun.

This is a recipe we use all of the time at my house. Sorry, I don't have pictures, but trust me, it's easy. It freezes well, too.

Crockpot Chicken Tacos

4 Chicken breasts (I've used both frozen and defrosted before)

1 C of chicken broth

1 envelope of taco seasoning or your own taco spices

Put everything into the crockpot on high and cook 6-8 hours. When finished, the chicken should just shred apart w/ the help of a fork. That's it! Easy Peasy! Now it's time to build your tacos!

We're ending our week with another "snow day". It's the third one this week, the sixth for the season. It is so cold outside. My poor kids have cabin fever and want to play outside so bad. Aaron was suppose to have his DARE graduation today(which was already postponed from the first storm we had before Christmas). Jordan was suppose to take a test today on German colors, which he's so ready for. Plus, he was to start wrestling practice this week.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

It's Watcha Working on Wednesday and the kids and I are home on a snow day! It's snowing and will continue to snow all day. I've never lived in a place with such crazy weather. But I still love it!!!

Two of the boys are over at friends house, and the grounded son is currently snow blowing the driveway.

So here's what I've been doing lately...

We got a new sofa. It was delivered last night. I'm not sure how prim it is with it being made of leather, but with kids I want something I can just wipe down. I'll make some cute little pillows to add some interest, I think.

Here's my problem though. I have a coffee table that's black and an entertainment center that's dark oak. I think I should probably do something with the coffee table and maybe the end table that's not pictured. Any suggestions would be great!

Excuse the mess. I wanted to get this done before I got too distracted.

Last summer I bought some paper mache boxes at Hobby Lobby. When I got home I shoved them under by bed for lack of better storage, and didn't think about them again. Well, I drug them out on Sunday and here they are. I still need to put the stain on them, but I'm pretty happy with them.

Our nephew's girlfriend had a baby on New Year's Eve so I wanted to make him something. I saw something in Country Sampler though I thought was pretty cute, overly priced, and pretty easy to make on my own.

Of course you can't tell, but his birth date and weight is underneath his name. The little guy will have hair and a face LOL!

Not that I'm very good at posting on here, or that I have many readers, but I thought I'd close out 2009 with a last post of the year.
Today we did some grocery shopping and a little other shopping. We were looking for new snow pants for the kiddos. Aaron's old ones are too small, Jordan's has a hole in his, and Noah just wants a pair that are pants and not bibs. We found them at Target. Yay Target. I love Target.
We also bought me some Cuddle Duds. Everybody (3 boys and hubby) wants me to go outside and play with them, but I just don't have the gear for it when it's snowy and wet and freezing. When we got home I tried them out. They're great! I can't believe I've lived in Nebraska for 4 years without them.
We were also looking for snow boots. My problem is I have wide feet and freakishly big calfs. Target didn't have anything for either me or my husband. I suggested TJ MaXX to at least look, but I also had an alterior motive for going there. I heard through the blogging grapevine that they had a cute prim decor line. So I didn't find boots that would work for us, but I did find a cute little prim doll and some ornies for 1/2 off. I was so excited.

The little tags are tree ornaments I bought on clearance at Shopko 2 days ago. Next stop was Dick's Sporting Goods. Nothing! Then we drove to Famous Footwear. We found some Columbia boots that will work. They're men's but they're wide enough and will actually go over my big calves. The great thing is they were having a BOGO 1/2 off sale, so hubby got a pair for him. He need some as his old boots are snow board boots he bought like 13 years ago when we lived in California. They have a hole in them and the snow was getting in. Since he's the one that snow blows the driveway, we definitely need to keep him warm and cozy LOL!

Now we're home and we're just going to hang out for the night. We're going to eat some pizza rolls, buffalo wings, and cool veggie pizza. We bought some cider to toast the new year in, if we make it that long LOLI hope everybody has a safe and fun night.

Cool Veggie Pizza:

1 tube of crescent rolls

1 pkg of cream cheese; softened

1 1/2tsp mayonnaise

2 TBSP dill mix (pampered chef)

salt and pepper

Roll out the crescents into a 12" circle on a stone or pizza pan. Cook at 375* for about 10 minutes, or until golden. Mix the other ingredients together and spread on a cooled crust.

Add chopped veggies. I like carrots, celery, broccolie and red onions; but you can use anything.

Boy, do we have S*N*O*W!! We got a little bit Sunday night, but lastnight we got a whole lot more, with a whole lot more in our forecast. Today is a snowday, which means the kiddos will be in and out of the house today from sledding outside. The pictures below is of Noah starting out this morning.

Menu Monday

It's been a long time since I've posted here. I don't even think I have anybody that follows this blog. Oh well. I had to take DH to the airport today. He's only going to be gone until Thursday. He had to go to D.C for a conference.
This week we'll stay busy with baseball and baseball. The boys teams are wrapping of their seasons, also we're waiting to hear back from the select teams they tried out for. I don't think they make the Bellevue teams, but Jordan has a better chance at Offutt. They really have only played this year. They each played tball when they were little, but that was it. We shall see.
Today is Monday and that means Menu Monday at orgjunkie.com. I'm going to just kind of wing this. A couple of weeks ago we my dh and I big grocery shopped and i still have stuff left over to cook. This is what I'm going to try and cook off of this week.

Breakfast:
granola
eggs and bacon
pancakes
cereal

lunches:
turkey or salomi sandwhiches
pb & j sand.
leftovers

Dinners:
chicken fettucini alfredo
tacos
fish sticks and fries
hm mac and cheese

The biggest thing I'm working on is preparing for Chris to come home from GTMO. He'll be home very soon. I don't want the house to look like we haven't done anything for the months he's been gone. :-)

Since I've started sewing and making these little stitcheries, I've been having trouble with my hand going numb. I went to the doctor today, knowing I probably have carpel tunnel. Well, he said I probably have the beginning stages of it. I gave me a brace to wear at night and IB Profin to take 3 times per day. I guess I'm just getting old.

I did make a run to Goodwill before my doctor appointment. I'll get a picture of everything up soon.

Tonight we're watching "storm watch" on the news. For this Southern Cali girl, all the weather we get here is fascinating. I love it! My area is in the clear, but at one point this evening we were on tornado watch. The metro area will most likely get some hail. They're not expecting it for my area. (update: while typing this out, we got pea size hail) It is however pretty darn cloudy and still pretty windy. We've also had a little bit of thunder. Poor Noah, this type of weather just scares the crudinsky out of him. He gets so nervous. The biggest threat now is in Western Iowa. I feel bad for them. They seem to get the worst part of our storms.

We need to get ready for Chris to come home. The kids have made huge messes in the basement and the garage. We've been working on the garage, so tonight we started on the basement. I still have a bunch of toys and books left over from when I had the daycare. I put more stuff in my car for the Goodwill. I have to go to the doctor on Wednesday and the Goodwill is pretty close by so I'll make a drop off then.

While we were working on the basement, Aaron found my name tag for work. It's been missing for a couple of weeks. Of course today I actually ordered a new one so of course it's going to be found. I wonder how it got down there.

Saturday I went to Lowes and bought the wood to make the trencher that Char from http://charsethman.blogspot.com/search?q=trencher It was the first time I did anything like this. I'm just so proud of it

Sunday, while watching Twilight, I worked on this little guy from http://www.birdinthehandprimitives-robin.blogspot.com/ I had a good time stitching this, just don't turn it over. :-) I also painted the frame I got from the thrift store over a week ago.

Saturday I got my package that I ordered from someplace on Ebay. It came with a shelf, the candle holder and grubby candle, 3 grubby candles wrapped in cheese cloth, the star, the string of hears that I might repaint, some heart soaps, and a porcelain dish. I put the dish and soaps in my bathroom. The lamb came from http://www.kpcreek.com/

I have been busy!!!!

I have been so inspired with so many great blogs about primitive decorating, stitchery and trash to treasure projects that I've made myself pretty busy for the last couple of weeks. The first thing i did was sold my big china hutch that was taking up MUCHO room in my dining area. Of course I had to put something in that space so I went on the hunt. I ended up at a thrift store and the above picture is what I found. I painted the shelf and the 2 scoop candle holders and hung them up. Now the shelf isn't arranged how I want it right now, but I'll get there. I ordered some pip berries to go w/ my candle holders but they were out so didn't send them.

The hubby and I were talking and decided we were ready to put a coffee table back into our living room. One day I visited Goodwill to just see what I could see and walked in and spotted a great coffee table. Well it was white so definitely needed repainting. I didn't do that great of a job, but I figure when I get tired of looking at it, I can always sand it down and repaint.

Well, I've always wanted a corner cabinet that I'll put in my eating area. I looked all over online, and they can be pretty pricey. So one day i went into the Salvation Army and what do I see? A corner cabinet. Right now it's sitting in the garage airing out and I'll clean it up then probably paint it red.

I've always wanted to have those cute little samplers, but either I can't find them or I do and they are expensive. Off and on I've looked at different patterns to buy online but for some reason I never bouhgt any. Well in my computer travels, I found some awsome blogs and websites offering free patterns. I found one that is a quilters block a month. It's for a Christmas quilt. The blocks are so pretty. Here's where I got my free patterns http://gailpandesigns.typepad.com/my_weblog/a-.html

I haven's attached any of my blocks to fabric yet. I've been out looking for Christmas fabric, I just haven't found any I like yet.

So for a long time, like a few years, i've really liked the primitive country look. One night I was Googling I think quilts and some how found http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/. I'm not sure how I got there, but I'm so glad I did. I have been truly inspired to explore my crafty side and decorating my home. It just seems so bare and needs a lot of work to bring it to a homey state.

Today is Watcha Working on Wednesday at My Country Home so I thought I would participate. My 6yo is home "sick" today with an ear infection. I had to pick him up early from school yesterday. I'm hoping he's better for tomorrow. He tends to get a little antsy when he's home and he's not completely down, so we took a ride to a thrift store a few miles away. I've only been in here one time but I didn't have my eyes wide open for all the hidden treasures. Today I found 2 scoop candle holders, a shelf, 2 small baskets, and a little wooden rooster. A few days ago I found this coffee table for my livingroom. We need one so bad. It was painted white with a horrible paint job. Here is my 6yo helping w/ the sanding. Sorry it's so blury... Well, darn. I tried to post the picture below, but it somehow ended up on top. Oh well. It's been so cold outside that I think I'll have to drag my table inside to the basement so we can get it finished.

I'm also working on Fuzzy Buddy present for work. It's a cross stitched book mark. I tea died some muslin so I can get started on making stuff.

I've made weekly menus in the past and it helps out a lot. However, I haven't made one in a loong time. This time of year is pretty busy for us in the evenings(my boys play football), so I need meals that are fast and easy. If I don't have fast and easy, I end up in the drive thru. Here is my 1st attempt after a long drought at making a menu.

Monday: pork chops, potatoes, greenbeans
Tuesday: eggs, bacon, and toast
Wednesday: already boiled chicken with pasta and veggies from a bag.
Thursday: Hamburgers, frenchfries
Friday: homemade pizza
Sat: ?
Sun:?

I've been reading http://orgjunkie.com/ for a couple of months now. I've been completely inspired. I really do need all the help I can get with getting my life organized. Every month is a focus in one area of the house and this month is the entry area.

I found my inspiration and dug in. I made my kids a backpack station!!!! I didn't take before pictures, but I had coats on the hanger, a big basket of gloves and beanies on top, a binder full of warranties and information for my house on top, leaf for the table, bags, and the vacuum cleaner. No shelving, no hooks. The above picture is how it looks now. I put in a small 2 cubbie shelf, a shoe shelf on top of that, 3 hooks for the backpacks and jackets for 3 kids. In the cloth cubbie I have the hats and gloves for the winter. On top I have extra bags and a basket for something I don't know yet. Oh, I almost forgot. In the empy cubbie on bottom is where I put my purse.

Well, this is the first post of this blog. What has inspired me to do this? It was the desire to participate on Organized Junkie's site. I love it there! August is the entry/foyer month so this weekend My husband and I made the front cleset into a backpack station. I'll post a picture of that soon. This is going to be short and sweet as my boys should be home from football very soon.
